What have you lost that you wish you still had?
Submitted by gunderson bee.
Toby.
He was the best cat a girl could ever have. Definitely a one in a million cat. We were completely made for each other, and I totally miss having him around. I miss him sleeping on the small of my back every night. It's been 3 1/2 years, and I still miss him just as much as I did when he died. The spectral visits help, but they're not the same...
What are five words you really like?
Submitted by purplesque.
I've always like the word fuck. And not just because of the vulgarity of it either. There's just something about the way it rolls off the tongue...
Another favorite word is ass-batty. Sorry, I consider it one word if it's hyphenated. Bite me if you don't like that. *veg* But life can be quite ass-batty, hence my use of the word.
Yes is always a good word, especially when it's said instead of no. Of course, I could also be thinking that because I'm listening to the Venus Hum song "Yes and No".
Momma is another favorite. Perhaps because I have a fucked up [see? I like that word!] sense of motherhood, thanks to my own mother. From childhood on, I've always wanted to be a mother. I don't have any children [Max is different], but I have many nieces and nephews [none of my blood] who suffice, as do my pets. Hell, my pets are my children, as far as I'm concerned.
Love ranks up there, as well. It also has some strange, fucked up connotations for me, but it's something I certainly strive for a on a daily basis.
What's your favorite appetizer to order at a restaurant?
It really depends on the restaurant. But my favorite all time appetizer is the seared ahi tuna at Outback. *swoons* I love the way they prepare the tuna, and the sauces are to die for!
Another favorite is any kind of artichoke dip, usually paired with parmesan cheese. It's the taste combination that rocks...
What is your favorite term of endearment?
Submitted by lostdwarf.
Giving or receiving? Stranger? Friend? Loved one? Paramour?
It really all depends for me on those things.
I think for the most part I'll use 'dearheart' the most generically. And it can be used sarcastically, as well...
I've used a variety of others on occasion, as well: hon, sweetie, dear, love/luv, babe, sweetcheeks....
When I write, I tend to use 'baby' and 'love/luv' the most. I think it's because they make the most sense for the characters I write most often.
Do you have a sixth sense? How do you experience it?
I've been known to see things that have come true. It would probably be a better bet to say that I've sensed things that came true, or that I sensed things that others were trying to hide.
It's not an exacting science, nor is it something that should be sensationalized per se.
There are those who would belittle and ridicule those of us with these sensitivities. Perhaps because they don't understand. Perhaps because they are afraid: of the sensitivities we possess...or their own sensitivities. Lack of understanding causes so many issues...
But as for my sensitivities/sixth sense/whatever-you-want-to-call-it, I am proud to have them. I know the responsibility and burden that come with them, and I don't exploit them. I don't necessarily advertise them either. It's not that I'm ashamed or anything like that. It's more that I know that if someone has need of them, they'll find me.
I am very much of the belief that when walking along the Pagan paths [of whichever flavor you choose to follow], you will find the persons who will assist you on your path/journey in the various roles of a teacher/guide. If someone needs my abilities in that role, they will find me. Just as if I need someone in that role, I'll find them.
Colcannon
found on the web @ http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Parthenon/7039/AshlinCC.html
(Potatoes, harvested from August to October, were a part of the feast in Ireland where they were made into a Samhain dish known as colcannon. Colcannon is a mashed potato, cabbage, and onion dish still served in Ireland on All Saint's Day. It was an old Irish tradition to hide in it a ring for a bride, a button for a bachelor, an thimble for a spinster, and a coin for wealth, or any other item which local custom decreed in keeping with idea of the New Year as a time for divination.)
* 4 cups mashed potatoes
* 2 1/2 cups cabbage, cooked and chopped fine
* 1/2 cup butter (avoid corn oil margarines as they will not add the needed body and flavor)
* 1/2 cup evaporated milk or cream
* 3/4 cup onion, chopped very find and sautéd
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1/8 teaspoon white pepper
Sauté onions (traditionalists sauté in lard or grease, but butter is acceptable.). Boil the potatoes and mash them (do not use artificial potato flakes). In a large pan place all of the ingredients except the cabbage and cook over low heat while blending them together. Turn the heat to medium and add the chopped cabbage. The mixture will take on a pale green cast. Keep stirring occasionally until the mixture is warm enough to eat. Lastly drop in a thimble, button, ring, and coin. Stir well and serve.
Have you ever purchased something from an infomercial?
Submitted by Colleen.
I don't remember actually ordering from the infomercials themselves. But if I've liked the products and seen them in other places for competitive pricing, I've purchased then.
Besides, the issues with infomercials and the propensity of scams arising from them make me exceedingly leery about purchasing from the infomercials themselves. At least if I buy the item from Wal*Mart or the like, I have the option of returning it if it's not up to par or broken...
What's your suggestion for the Question of the Day?
Inspired by Princesskasren.
My question would be a simple one...
Why Vox over all of the other blog sites? What makes Vox so special over the rest of them?
I'm trying to decide exactly what I'm going to do with this journal of mine. I want it to be something more than just a backup to my LJ, but I'm kind of stumped as to what exactly...
I'm considering turning it into a journal about one of the following:
- spirituality
- crafts
- cooking [tho' I have a BakeSpace acct for that]
- ???
Any assistance would be muchly appreciated...
So I've deleted the first two posts I've made, as I'm not quite pleased with what's going on here as far as posting to this journal. Obviously, I'm going to have to think about what I want to do in this journal a little more before I post again...
*sigh* Not my day to post here...
